YouTube Channel: The Quiet Guitar
With another beautiful day...
I just felt my guitars calling.
I have been working on the classical guitar portion of the cover song for the intro.
I will soon record that portion so I may layer the other instruments upon that base.
I have so many instruments that I can hear in my mind...
as I will be improvising much of the cover song.
As it stands right now...
I will be layering the Classical Guitar...
12 string guitar...
(perhaps) the 6 string Bass Guitar...
Bass Flute...
and using my Max 10 keyboard...
the Grand Piano...
Violin...
and (perhaps) the Cello.
I will have to see once I start arranging the music.
Although I want to keep it fairly simple...
as the song is relatively simple...
I also want the more full orchestral feel as the background to the guitars and bass flute.
This is me as I practice in the loft.
The sheer expansiveness of the loft...
combined with the cathedral ceiling and the open cathedral windows...
and with the third deck door open and some other windows open...
allowing for the mountain alpine air to add to the ambiance...
they just make for the perfect place for creative expression and innovation.
This is my place of serenity...
where I may just feel inspired.
This is who I am at my core
(I am very light hearted...
almost childlike in happiness and in my love of life).
This is my creative space where I may write, and compose and play music.
Pursuing my creative passions in life is just so exciting and serene at the same time.
I have so many songs I wish to create and play...
and the pure exuberation I feel at even the most incremental improvement and progress...
just makes me feel so alive and deeply fulfilled.
I wish to play some of my favorite songs with my own personal touch...
and with different instruments not used in the original...
except for the core instruments keeping rhythm
(ex...there is a jazz song using the electric guitar I plan to do in the future...
but with the Bass Flute filling in for the vocals).
I also have many compositions I wish to complete using my bass flute.
As you can see...
I hold guitars at an odd angle (almost vertically)...
primarily to allow my left hand to operate freely...
as some of my tendons in my left hand are shorter and stiffer
due to a previous injury which had prompted hand surgery.
But...
as with anything in life...
adaptation is key.
The high angled foot rest allows me to support the guitars on my legs at the appropriate angle.
This modification of the angle at which I hold my guitars makes all the difference in the world...
as my left hand becomes much more free to move.
I will practice with the classical guitar...
...and then switch to the 12 string for a while.
The 12 string guitar takes much more pressure to fully engage
all of the necessary strings.
To keep my fingers from getting sore...
and to keep my fingers supple...
I will switch off once I feel pain in any portion of my fingers or hand.
Besides...
it keeps my mind fresh as I must use different techniques...
switching from finger picking to strumming with a pick.
As soon as the sound degrades...
or when I start to make mistakes...
I will once again switch off...
as ingraining imperfect practice just sets one back.
Again...
I am not naturally talented in music.
But...
it is in the overcoming of my lack of talent through consistent practice
that I find to be so satisfying.
To achieve a hard won victory is the most satisfying of all victories.
It is the Zen of self mastery and expression of the self
that makes the whole process so magical...
and the results so deeply satisfying.
I will keep improving...
although slowly and incrementally...
because that is what life is all about.
In order for we humans to be truly happy...
we must experience progress.
The setting of goals is to see new mountain peaks to climb on the horizon.
With each step up those mountains...
renewed energy abounds...
and life satisfaction greatly increases.
To live life filled with true hope...
the never ending anticipation of a better future...
and of dream fulfillment...
is the way of truly living.
------------
The goal in life is not to not feel boredom...
it is to live life as fully as possible...
to feel fully engaged in your long term goals.
This is what gives hope
(short term goals to alleviate boredom...
is the sacrifice of long term goals for the short...
which will leave you bitter in an unfulfilled life...
and just plain angry at the world).
Once you feel happy in your path to your future...
everything in the here and now...
becomes serene and beautiful.
---------
I will continue my practice...
and then later this evening...
I will go grocery shopping in Woodland Park...
and I will stop in at AJ's on my way home...
for another delicious pizza.
