I had awakened early this morning to find a beautiful sunrise forming.
I usually miss many sunrises due to my staying awake late at night...
and subsequently awakening in the late morning.
However...
as I was unusually tired last night...
I went to sleep at around 8 PM...
and so...
I had awakened just before sunrise.
Luckily...
I had caught this morning's sunrise.
I stepped out to the second deck and took a few shots from there.
I then went up to the loft to go out to the third deck to take more photos.
I took the upper two shots from the third deck.
I then went back to the loft...
and then downstairs to the second deck once again.
I watched the beautiful sunrise fade away...
and then...
as I was not used to awakening so early...
I felt sleepy again...
and went back to bed to sleep until late morning.
Once awakening...
I practiced more guitar...
and then I made Bandi and myself our meal for the day.
---------------
There is a major fire on the other side of the mountains between Canon City...
and Colorado Springs.
It is called the 24 fire...
as it is presently burning over 2,000 acres...
and as of yet...
is not contained.
The highway it is burning near is closed for now...
but it is the same shortcut I had taken from Canon City to Colorado Springs...
after my last country drive on Shelf Drive / Skyway Drive.
Cripple Creek is towards the upper left (marked by the red - sign)...
and there are many miles of mountains between me and the fire...
so there is no danger of it spreading towards me...
especially since the fire is on the flat dried grass range east of the mountains.
However...
the smoke is slightly noticeable at home...
and the air West of me has a smokey haze to it.
But...
one plus for me is that the smoke tinged air to the West provided a unique sunset...
as the particulates made for a deeply reddened sunset.
So...
I took for Bandi on a run as I rode my trike up to the top of the mountain to view the sunset.
We were just starting out in the above photo.
I stopped for a moment to arrange my sideview mirrors...
and we continued on.
Mt. Rhyolite
Sentinel Peak
Mt. Pisgah
As you can see...
the smoke is visible to the West of me
(which is strange since the fire is to the distant East).
Bandi resting as we awaited the sunset at the top of the mountain.
You can see the haze of smoke in the distance.
The lower the sun got on the horizon...
the deeper red it appeared...
as it sunk below the haze of smoke in the distance.
Once the sun had sunken below the haze of smoke...
the sky all around the setting sun took on this beautiful blood red appearance.
Almost as soon as the sun sinks below the horizon...
the wind picks up...
and the temperature drops very quickly.
It happens every time I am at the top of the mountain.
I put on my balaclava and gloves for the ride home.
I had arrived at home...
and took a last shot of the afterglow of the sunset.
I then put my trike into the right side garage...
and then Bandi went right to her water bowl and drank her fill.
What a doubly beautiful day...
a sensational sunrise...
and then an equally sensational sunset.
------------
I am planning on taking another country drive with Bandi...
tomorrow, in the midafternoon.
There is this home a man had spent 50 years building it himself out of stone.
It is called a castle...
and it is now a free tourist attraction...
and dogs are allowed there was well.
On the way back from there...
I am going to take a much longer and roundabout Northern route near the continental divide.
As it is a two hour drive to the castle...
and I plan to spend an hour there...
and as I wish to capture the sunset while near the Continental Divide mountains...
I don't wish to leave too early.
I hope to have some beautiful photos of our trip tomorrow.
