Mini Daily Project / Carpets Arrived

Song:  Quiet Merge

Artist:  Petrile

The final order of marine outdoor waterproof carpets arrived.

I just brought them inside and stacked them...
as this will be a long term project.

I have to ensure the weather window shows clear for many days...
as I will have much work to do until everything is finished.

Even though the day was beautiful...
June and July are the times for evening summer rains
(of which usually only last for a couple of hours in the early evening hours).

I will soon remove the satellite dish...
as I don't watch Cable TV.
(there is another free standing dish for the internet near the road at my home).

But...
I must wait until I begin the carpeting process...
as I must ensure no rain fills the holes left behind before I start caulking.

I decided that I would begin my daily mini project of weeding and unwanted plant removal
later in the early evening.

I have a one handed pickaxe for deep root plant removal.

I just ordered a pair of heavy duty gloves for this long term, but daily project.
All I had at this time were my chainsaw gloves...
so...
until my other gloves arrive...
they will have to do.

I do not like these plants.
They have sharp thorned ends on each blade.

I have been stuck by them before...
and so...
they must go.

Plus...
the walkway will become my first flower bed.

I will put in plants and flowers of my choosing.

There are several of these plants...
and I would only remove two of them on this day...
but I will soon be rid of all of them...
as well as all the weeds which had sprouted during the evening summer rains.

Just some of the many weeds I shall be taking out.

I like everything to be neat and tidy.

Getting between the rocks will prove to be time consuming...
but...
it will be done.

I will probably remove this tree...
as it will eventually grow to be quite large.

If I can get a dwarf Japanese maple...
I may plant one in the same spot.

Many of the weeds came out without need of the pickaxe...
but some had deep and thick roots.

Later in the day...
when I started my mini project...
the cloud cover was just right.

But...
 at my altitude...
the UV rays are quite strong...
so I can easily get sunburned.

However...
one of the keys to good health is getting a small amount of UV rays
on a daily basis.

I will limit myself to filling just one trash bag at a time for that day...
and I will just work without a shirt...
and with just workout shorts on.

This will allow for adequate exposure of a lot of my skin...
for an adequate amount of time.

This way...
I will be able to still get a healthful amount of sunshine without burning.

The day was perfect as the cool mountain breeze
felt so good on my skin.

Just this one area filled a trash bag.

This one handed pickaxe is a perfect garden tool...
as the horizontal blade digs down so I may pry up deep rooted plants...
and in the case of the extensive roots of a small tree...
the vertical blade severs the thick roots with ease.

I will eventually be weeding all the areas around the house and driveway.

There are many plants which I will take out...
and the ground beneath which I will prepare for other more desirable plants.

Again...
as with any work which needs to be done...
taking the job in small bites keeps it pleasurable.

It is a pleasure getting out in the sun for a limited time
(I usually limit my work time to the early morning...
or the late evening hours).

I actually look forwards to my mini projects...
as they are just another one of the great simple pleasures of life...
all the while reaping the healthful benefits of fresh air and sunlight.

  1. 2.5 acres should give you many days of enjoyment and activity. The naturalness of the terrain gives you many options and opportunities without looking overgrown or unloved. The perfect environment for you. You will never be bored

  2. It is my piece of heaven (Actually 2.12 acres). But, as all of the forest is open...I could wander in it for days.

  3. Weeding will keep you busy... not sure how it will be in the mountains, but at lower elevations it feels like weeding is never ending.

  5. Weeding at this elevation should be just a once a year process, with lessening amounts each following year.
