Song: Shape Of My Heart
Artist: Alan Libray
This early afternoon...
I decided to cut down some of the smaller pine trees which were
growing among the Aspen trees.
I had also trimmed back some of the lower branches on a couple of trees.
The larger pine in this photo is one of the ones which I had
trimmed the lower hanging branches back as they had presented a danger to me...
as I walk under the tree to take Bandi to the bathroom.
Especially at night...
one of the branch ends could have poked me in one of my eyes...
so...
I took care of that possible problem before it caused me harm.
I also cut down and parsed up two smaller pine trees
which were growing among the Aspens.
This way I could take care of a future problem while they were still small.
I will be taking down this pine tree in the future as it is too near an Aspen grove.
I will have to wait for my climbing gear before I attempt that though...
as I will have to be careful when cutting it down as I don't want to damage the Aspen trees.
I will be starting with the branches as I climb up...
and then cutting the tree into sections from the top down.
On this tree...
I will, at least, trim the left branch...
but it can wait...
as here is no hurry on this tree.
Bandi enjoyed being outside as I worked on the trees
(she had shade available to her).
I had cut down two smaller trees and trimmed the lower branches
of the pine in this photo.
After dragging up the two smaller felled trees to the top of Bandi's Berm...
I then trimmed the branches off the trunks before cutting up the trunks themselves.
I had decided to fell many trees and cut them into transportable size before I start hauling
them up to near the street to pile them neatly.
This way I can dedicate certain days to hauling.
This will allow me to recover between hauling days...
as it will prove to be physically rigorous...
especially once I start felling trees much farther down the ridge.
After trimming the lower branches of the tree under which I often walk...
I sat underneath it in the shade as I caught my breath
and took in the beautiful day.
I must have sat there for a good twenty minutes just watching the clouds...
and feeling the cool mountain breeze on my face.
Later...
I will also be taking out some of the bushy pines in the Aspen groves.
I will certainly fell the left pine...
and perhaps the right one as well.
A few more pines I will remove at a later time.
I will certainly be taking out the left pine...
and perhaps the right one...
sometime in the future...
as both are crowding the Aspen trees.
As I was finishing up for the day...
I pondered which trees I would next be felling in the future.
Although I had briefly considered this small pine...
I realized that if it grew too large...
I could always trim it back.
It would serve two future purposes as it is on the top of Bandi's Berm...
it provides soil stability...
and I plan to plant a Japanese Maple in its shade in the future
(Japanese Maples thrive in the shade of larger trees)...
so...
I will keep this pine.

Today was such a beautiful day.
As tomorrow is supposed to be only partly cloudy...
I have decided to take Bandi on a triking journey about an hour from here.
It will be on a dedicated hiking / biking trail at the bottom of the Royal Gorge.
As the trail is only a couple of miles in length...
one way...
there will be no need for me to take the doggie trailer for Bandi.
I will be making a lot of rest stops for her...
and I will be taking plenty of water for her as well.
It should prove to be very interesting...
and will certainly be a very fun day for, both, Bandi, and me.
Hopefully...
I will have many beautiful photos of my day with Bandi
(of which I should have posted by tomorrow night).
Jimmy has found the property that perfectly matches his personality. I dare the rest of you to do the same. Being an n alignment with your soul is everything. I admire his courage and respect his dedication to taking care of his property. I love the fact that his health has improved substantially when he aligned himself with his dream. Take steps to do likewise and see what unfolds for you
ReplyDeleteI fully concur :) It still feels like a dream to me...a wonderful one.
ReplyDeleteHauling away the cut timber will be a rigorous job. Do you have a mini atv or riding mower that can pull a trailer that can help move it out?
ReplyDeleteIt certainly seems like you have found your heaven on earth. Bravo?
Yes, it is my heaven...as it is my haven from a sometimes hectic and chaotic world.
ReplyDeleteI will look at it as my exercise for the day. I will just pace myself. I will just load the number of logs I can comfortably carry...with long rests between each haul.
