Song: Morning Has Broken
Artist: Cat Stevens
Last night I was at the computer in the loft when I realized that the sun had already set.
As it was too late to catch the sunset from Sunset Point...
I just stepped out onto the third floor loft deck and took this photo.
---------------
My younger sister had brought up something by email the other day...
she remembered I had a Jacuzzi hot tub spa on the first floor deck.
She was worried that if it weren't already drained that the spa might be damaged by the ice
that would form inside the piping.
I thought I rememberd something about the spa already having been drained.
But as the temperature has been dipping to 10 degrees F (-12.2 C) at night...
I realized I wasn't so sure as to the state of the spa.
I decided to check in the morning the next day.
In my mind, the night before...
worst case scenarios kept popping up in my mind.
I imagined that I would walk down to the first floor deck to find that
water pipes had burst and ice had covered the deck...
and that squirrels were ice skating on it :)
When arrived in the morning...
everything looked okay.
I lifted the heavily insulated cover only to find that
not only was there water inside...
but that it had been kept at body temperature (98 degrees F).
I felt grateful that it had been kept on automatic heating.
As you can see...
the cover is made of a thick insulating foam...
and even surrounding the underside of the spa...
there is thick insulation there as well.
As the water was so warm...
warm water vapor emitted from the surface of the water.
As a matter of fact...
the water was so comfortably warm that I could imagine being inside in winter.
I left the spa uncovered and went upstairs for a bit...
and when I went back down...
I saw that a deer had climbed inside.
He was lying on his back with his head on one of the built in pillows...
his antlers were sticking out above the edge of the spa...
and he had his fore hoofs behind his head...
and he was smoking a cigarette...
I am, of course...joking...
deers don't smoke! :)
This spa has all kinds of jets and functions of which I have no working knowledge.
It looks to have a water fall on the far side...
as well as a water flow port on the forest side.
It has temperature control...
various led lighting controls...
ultraviolet water sterilization...
water jet functions...
among other functions I am unfamiliar with.
The seats are contoured to allow people to be in a relaxed reclined position.
The head rests are a soft foam.
I will have to add more water...
but I am unsure if it has internal plumbing or if I will have to fill it with a hose.
I will look into it later.
I am not a fan of sitting in a spa with hot or warm water...
I don't even like to take baths...
just showers.
I overheat easily...
I am made more for the cold.
But...
I am sure my guests will like it.
And afterwards...
they could go into the steam room...
and/or the infrared spa.
I then put the cover back on...
and as there was still snow on the first floor deck to second floor deck steps...
I walked to the lower driveway...
and over to the upper driveway to go back inside.
I will also get a cover to keep the dust and sun off of the whole Jacuzzi.
I still have much to learn about many things about my home.
The next time I have guests...
I will certainly try the steam sauna...
but I am pretty sure I won't be going into the Jacuzzi.
-----------------
I am thinking of going into town today to pick up some veggies
to dehydrate in large amounts.
For sure...
I will buy Habaneros...
green onions...
and if they have any...
maybe some Kabocha.
I have a very large 20 rack dehydrator that I keep in the garage.
This way I may have plenty of dehydrated veggies to use in soups and stews year round...
without having to frequently go to the store.
